The Encourager – The Psalm 91 Newsletter- December 22, 2006

“He shall cover me with His feathers, and under His wings I shall take refuge.”

Psalm 91:15a

I just received a heart-wrenching email from the parent of a soldier overseas. In it, he talked of missing his son and how his wife cried as she hung the stockings by the fireplace – their first Christmas without him. This Dad mentioned a song from Third Day’s new Christmas CD, Christmas Offerings. The name of the song is “Merry Christmas,” and it talks of a loved one being halfway around the world. I listened to part of it online just now, and this line made me think of our military men and women away from home: “So tonight I pray that God will come and hold you in His arms…” That’s my prayer for you.

I’m trying to think of how to say what is in my heart for our brave men and women serving overseas right now. I don’t think there’s a way to put it down in words, but I will do my best.

I hurt for you.

I’m proud of you.

I’m thankful for you.

I wish you could be with your family

at Christmas.

I am so grateful that you have given part of your life to defend my family and me and to fight for the greatest country on earth.

I wish I could shake your hand or give

you a big hug of appreciation.

I am praying for you.

I know God loves you.

He is thinking about you right now.

Please let Him “hold you in His arms”

this Christmas as you completely surrender

your life to Him, and let Him take care of you –

resting in the fact that He is watching

over your family while you’re away.

Most of all, thank you, thank you, thank you!

May God bless you this Christmas.

God’s Blessings,

Jill P. Boyce

“I shall call upon Him, and He will answer me. He will be with me in trouble; He will deliver me and honor me."  Psalm 91:15

Five years ago, our country was shaken and changed forever
by tragedy when terrorists used two of our own airliners as weapons to attack the New York Towers and another to hit The Pentegon in Washington D.C. Still another plane went down in a field in Pennsylvania as brave passengers helped
to prevent a third major catastrophe. We will never forget
the horror of that day, but we will always remember how
God was with us during that time of trouble and how
He is delivering and honoring us even now in the midst
of war. No matter what trouble you experience in the
future - and we all will - let me encourage you to reach out
to God. I believe the words of Psalm 91:14-15. When you call upon Him, He will answer you. He will be with you
in trouble, He will deliver you, and He will honor you.

“No arsenal, no weapon in the arsenals of the world,
is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free
     men and women.”     Ronald Reagan

This special newsletter is to honor those who lost their
lives in the tragedies of September 11, 2001. I took
part tonight in a commemoration in my city of Plano,
Texas. As we walked around Plano Center, accompanied
by firefighters and policemen from our area, we stopped
at three spots that represented the three separate
tragedies. We rang a replica of the Liberty Bell, and
we took the time to shake the hands of servicemen

representing those who are now fighting the War on
Terror for our country as a result of 9/11. I want to
personally thank all of you who are serving our country
in any way - the military, policemen, firefighters, and
emergency workers. Thank you, and God bless you.

The Encourager – The Psalm 91  Newsletter- August 28, 2006

“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress;
my God, in Him I will trust."           Psalm 91:2

Greetings on this hot summer day! I want to thank all of you who         have responded with positive comments on my first newsletter. My hope is to encourage all those who read it - especially our military men and women. As you can see, the verse above will be changing each month to reflect the theme God has put on my heart. This month, it's TRUST! If we ever needed to trust God, it's now. During the next few days, when you come up against impossible situations, I encourage you to stay close God who is your REFUGE and FORTRESS. He's all around you, taking care of you and your "impossible situation." He's working "on the other side of the door" while you are waiting for your answer to prayer. Please know that I am praying for you and your loved ones.

“Knowing that I am not the one in control gives great encouragement. Knowing the One who is in control is everything.”                      Alexander Michael

This month, we're featuring...

Lance Corporal Stephen F. Johnson

(See attachment for Stephen's photo.)
LCpl Stephen F. Johnson from Georgia just turned 20 years old on August 10th in the "sandbox." Stephen joined the Marines during the spring of 2005, his senior year. 9/11 was his motivation and still is.

I thought he was wearing his ‘91’ around his neck. Praise GOD - what a great place to wear the Shield of Faith--around your head. Stephen is a Christian and is now learning that the Word is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword. Thank you for your work. It is making a difference in the ‘sandbox’ and it is very comforting to us Moms and Dads at home. A good friend gave Stephen his ‘91’ at his sendoff party. I just received my four from ya'll that will be going out this morning in ‘hugs’ boxes to four other Marines in my son's battalion.”       Lynn Johnson

The Encourager – The Psalm 91 Newsletter- July 4, 2006

“I shall not be afraid of the terror by night nor of the arrow that flies by day."
                                                                       Psalm 91:5
Happy Independence Day! This is the first in a series of newsletters meant to encourage the reader. It is dedicated to the United States Military, and its purpose is to lift the morale of our brave men and women in uniform as well as their families and friends. The times in which we live are not easy, and we need to know that God is in control no matter how things may appear.

"If it be the pleasure of Heaven that my country shall require the poor offering of my life, the victim shall be ready . . . But while I do live, let me have a country, or at least the hope of a country, and that a free country."     President John Adams

This week, we’re featuring Master Sergeant Darrin Crowder, a 20-year veteran of the United States Army. For over 15 years he served as a “Green Beret” with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) throughout the Middle East and Africa. Darrin has seen combat during the Gulf War, Somalia, Haiti, Afghanistan, and two tours in Iraq. Go to www.psalm91bandana.com or www.darrincrowder.com to find out more about Darrin and his miraculous story about how God spared his life using the Psalm 91 bandana.

A word of encouragement from the editor

I’ve been thinking about sending out a newsletter for a while now, but when I heard about our two soldiers abducted and killed in Iraq recently, I knew it could not be put off any longer. We all need encouragement now, especially our military. I personally feel that I must light a candle in the darkness rather than cursing it. This is my attempt to do that for our military, our chaplains, and our families. If you would like to join me in this effort, please feel free to submit an encouraging word to be included in a future newsletter. I also welcome pictures and bios of your loved ones serving in our military. (Send to jpbwrite@yahoo.com.)
